How To Revive An Grimey Wraparound Deck

One of the trickiest things to do is to revive an old, beaten up, wrap around deck. These decks are not the easiest thing to handle. It can be quite difficult to handle the repair process, which is why so many people leave their decks to wither away, season after season. However, this is not the correct thing to do. It's easy to maintain an outdoor wraparound deck, once it's in good shape. The big issue is that a deck needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Otherwise, the grime will build up, and the stain will wear down. If your deck has been beaten down by the sun, rain, and snow, then it's best to simply do a complete overhaul and start from scratch. That includes removing the grime with a powerful spray and then re-coating with new stain. Here's how to do that:

Rent An Air Compressor With Power washer Attachment

The fastest way to remove the grime from the deck is to use a power washer. This is much faster and more effective than using a hand scrubber and soap and water. And it is much safer than using some sort of bleach concoction. If you mix bleach and water, as some people recommend, and you make the mixture too concentrated, you will end up ruining the decking. The bleach will harm the wood if it's too strong. And you don't want to be on your hands and knees scrubbing and rubbing the wood deck. This is just too difficult for you to do and it's not even the most effective way to remove the grime, that calls for a power washer.

You can find a business that rents air compressors and then get an attachment that functions as a power washer. You will then transport it to your home and then hook up a hose. The air compressor will then take the water from the house, and transform that water into a powerful spray that will wash away all of the old grime.

Recoat with New Stain

After you have done cleaning the wood with the power washer, you are going to want to let it dry for at least two days. The wood might have soaked up some of the water, and you want to make sure that it's bone dry before you coat it with stain. When it does come time to apply the stain, you can use a soft sponge applicator. Because you're going to be using a lot of stain, you might want to get a stain mop. These allow you to apply the stain while standing up without having to get down on the deck and rub it in by hand. Make sure to use a stain that has UV protection. This will help protect your decking from damaging sun rays.
